First you can settle in your chosen accommodation and have a little rest. Then it’s already time to take in the medieval town of Kamnik that is cradled by the surrounding mountains, creating a wonderful backdrop. There is a reception before dinner and a presentation of the itinerary by a local travel agency.
First part of the mountain fairy tale: Your holidays begin with a bicycle-friendly ascent to the mountain saddle that connects two mountain valleys. Next comes a pleasurable descent along peaceful local roads to the mountain village of Luče that is hidden between the mountains and the River Savinja, one of Slovenia’s cleanest rivers. Your host for this night is local family at House Raduha with one of the best restaurants in Slovenia.
A picturesque road takes us to our destination passing several natural attractions including Igla, which means needle in Slovenian and is a 40m tall, imposing solitary peak, separated from the surrounding rock by only a narrow crack. Those looking for the perfect spot to take a picture can extend the tour to Robanov kot, the first of the three valleys in the landscape park.
What comes next is the most challenging, but also the most picturesque section of the tour. The ascent to the two mountain saddles can be shortened by using additional transport.
Descend along the narrow gorge of the River Kokra, next enjoy a break alongside Lake Črnava, and then continue in the direction of the Julian Alps and the Triglav National Park.
After four days of cycling you deserved a day for rest. For those, who are pure enthusiasts, there is a trip around the lake, after which we drive to Bled through the typical Lower Alpine villages with farmhouses. There is also the possibility to visit “Vintgar rocky gorge” and the castle of Bled.
The cycling connection to the capital uncovers a completely new perspective of Slovenia. The green fields and lowlands across which wind languid rivers.
