About Us Content

VisitSlovenia.com is written from the road. Every guide here comes out of repeat trips to Slovenia — driving the passes, sleeping in the guesthouses, eating in the gostilnas, and coming back often enough to notice what has changed since the last visit.
This is not a content farm. Nobody here writes up a place they have not stood in. Where a page covers somewhere we have not reached yet, it says so plainly instead of padding the gap with recycled copy.
Why this site exists
Most English-language coverage of Slovenia stops at three names: Ljubljana, Bled, Postojna. That is fine for a first weekend and useless after it. It rarely tells you that Bled's lakeside car parks fill early on a July morning, that Bohinj sits twenty minutes further on and is far quieter, or that the Vršič Pass shuts under snow for months and no amount of planning gets you over it in March.
Those details decide whether a trip works. They come from being in the country repeatedly, in different seasons, with a car and a bit of time — not from rewriting someone else's list.
What that means for the guides
- Distances and timings we have actually driven. Slovenia is compact, but the mountain roads are slower than the map suggests.
- Places to stay judged on location first. A cheaper room a long walk from anywhere is not a bargain, and we say so.
- Restaurants we went back to. One good meal can be luck. Twice is a recommendation.
- Our own photographs, taken on those trips — not licensed stock of somewhere that looks vaguely alpine.
- Corrections, quickly. Timetables move, kitchens close, trails reroute. Tell us and the page gets fixed.
How the site pays for itself
Some links here are affiliate links. Book a hotel or a tour through one and we earn a small commission — you pay exactly the same price. That covers hosting and the next tank of fuel. It has never bought anyone a place on a list.
Thirty years of going out of our way
We have been writing about travel, and taking the long route to get there, for more than thirty years across a lot of countries. Slovenia is the one we keep returning to: small enough to cross in an afternoon, and still full of corners we have not reached.
Wherever you go next — go curious, go further, and make it count.
We will help you get there.
